A stunner of a day for the finals of the 2010 470 Junior World Championships in Doha, Qatar. Racing the first Medal Race today were the women's fleet, with the medals at the hands of several teams from the six nations qualifying to the Medal Race: Japan, Germany, Poland, Netherlands, Ukraine and Malaysia.

The men/mixed fleet were up early this morning, ready for a scheduled race start of 0900 hours. However, whilst the sailors were ready, the wind was not and the sailors waited ashore for the wind to fill in where football rather than sailing took a focus.

Japan Scores a Hat Trick in Qatar
Japan's Saki Goto and Hiromi Nishiyama had a day that you could only dream about as they notched up three race wins out of four races - hat trick and some. On arrival at the venue, the Doha Sailing Club, there was barely a flutter from the flags, but as the women's fleet headed out to the race track the breeze filled in a bit.

Malaysia Secures Series Opener
Ku Anas Ku Zamil of Malaysia declared on Thursday that he was aiming for a podium finish with crew Mohamad Hafizzudin Mazelan at the 2010 470 Junior Worlds in Qatar. He clearly meant it as he crossed the finish significantly ahead of the pack at today's opening race for the men/mixed fleet.
